Mobilitrees

Calvin and Hobbes (wood)

Chess (sticker)

Clarinet (sticker)

Limbo, video game (sticker)

L, television (sticker)

Anyway, currently I'm working on changing the train station to a raised garden area with a cafe center.  The working title is "Mobilitrees" falling in line with the mobilities and transitions from the beginning of the semester.  Here are some current working pictures.

It currently uses an alternating grid structure with columns and trees that cut through the walkable garden.  Access through ramps moves through the site and to the cafe as well.  Work in progress

"Reading Days"

So these past few reading days have been relaxing, even if I did go into studio everyday.  I got to play some Catan and make food so it was good.  I've made some spray paint stickers and stuff so enjoy:

From the video game "Borderlands 2" (wood)

Just fun I was having playing Bananagrams

More of the same

Curious how the laser cutter works?  Here's a video that won't explain it.

More Catan/Banaagrams fun
This is a diagram of the train station site I'm working with in studio

Field Trip?

Today I got to go on my first graduate school field trip.
We went to the Battle Building construction site, which is part of the hospital complex in its third year of construction.

Basically we got a tour of the construction, got a look at some of the inner systems, and got to see some of the other structural elements.  It was pretty cool and very complicated.  Here are some pictures:

I also gave a presentation tonight on the Lovell Beach House by Rudloph Schindler.  It was alright, and it's overall a really interesting building.  Apparently Monday and Tuesday are "reading days" here at UVa, so that means an extra 2 days to work on studio.  Horray.

Phase 02 Complete

I've recently just been compiling my work for submission, but I'll just share some of the photos of sketch and study models.  I'll also include some renderings of the Child Care Center that analyze light conditions on the site during both of the solstices and both of the equinoxes.

1000 Views!!

So I'm currently at 1,010 views so big thanks to everyone who is interested in my work!

I had my Phase 02 review today, where I presented the general ideas of my design.  It's basically a cafe with gardens on the interior, called "Cafeterrium."  The gardens are the sizes of the historical green space on the site, and each garden has a different use, ranging from a community driven one, to a display case for competitions within the context of the building.  The formal logic is a folding technique taken from my precedent study, with some more formal code regulations and parking added on later.  Unfortunately I don't have photos with me at the time, but I'll add some later.

As far as the review goes, there seemed to be a consensus that we were working too much within the context of our site and not including Charlottesville in our designs.  For me personally, the noted that my structural design seemed to be an afterthought and that the core of my project lies with the gardens.  Unfortunately, I'm not a landscape architect so I don't want my primary focus to be on the gardens.  I hope to move my design away from this to a degree, allowing me more structural freedom in my design.

To unwind, I sprayed another stencil, so here is one to enjoy.  The olive green did not come out great on this one, and I probably should've sanded the piece of wood I used.

Stencils and Spray!

I decided to have some fun (and of course work, still), so here are some stencils and spray paint art that I did the past few days.  I'll share architecture work later.

So these were my final sprays, and below are some stencils I plan on spraying eventually.

And for good measure, here are some pictures of stencils I hope to make in the future.

Cheers! Thanks for reading!
